Climate Change

 

• The United States contributes to 22% of world’s carbon emission.

• Climate change had been stable before the Industrial Revolution and it has been rapidly changing since then. Climate change is just going to keep on getting worse, unless we take action.

•  The first species to go extinct due to climate change is the Golden Toad.

•  In the United States, vehicles contribute to 20% of the carbon emisions.

•  By 2050, there could be an extra 25 million malnourished children under the age of 5 due to climate change, and 50 million more hungry people. ​

• IPCC suggests that prices could rise by up to 84 percent by 2050 due to climate change.

• The warmest years have been from 2005-2010.

• Deforestation and changes in the use of land contribute 15% of the carbon released into the enviornment. 

• The average temperature of the earth is supposed to be -18 degrees with the greenhouse gases, but right now, because of greenhouse gases, it has risen to 15 degrees

•  Many countries have taken steps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Doing this has led to positive health effects. Promoting eco-friendly  transportation and car pooling can help to reduce carbon emissions and improve public health.

•  More than  600,000 deaths occur worldwide every year due to climate change. 95% of these deaths take place in developing countries!

• Air conditioning and heating  consume 50% of electricity in America.
