CLIMATE CHANGE

climate change, what is it

cli·mate change

noun

  1. a change in global or regional climate patterns, in particular a change apparent from the mid to late 20th century onwards and attributed largely to the increased levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide produced by the use of fossil fuels.

FIG-3

Climate change has many impacts on the earth, and to humans. Humans have been altering the composition of the atmosphere by burning fossil fuels, including oil, gas and coal. When these are burned, Carbon dioxide is produced and builds up in the atmosphere, creating the greenhouse effect. Other greenhouse gases that contribute to this effect include methane, and Nitrogen from nitrogen-based fertilizers. The greenhouse effect traps energy from the sun, and raises the temperature of the earth. This rising temperature is called Climate Change
